Hey! My name is Matt, and I am a 19-year-old sports journalist and storyteller. I ams currently a sophomore at the University of Missouri pursuing a degree in journalism with a sports writing and reporting emphasis. I am a Walter Williams Scholar within the journalism school and seek to graduate with honors, along with a certificate in sports analytics.

Currently, I serve as an NBA reporter covering the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder, among other sports, and write for the Columbia Daily Tribune as a preps correspondent for local high schools. M-I-Z and Go Spurs Go!

What’s Your Story?

Victor Wembanyama: Inside a Generational Talent’s
Chase of 2 Spurs Legacies (SI Inside the Spurs)

“I’m a
Damn
Spur.”

What happens when a kid from Wisconsin dedicates his entire career to serving his community?

J.J. Watt showed exactly what, making himself a beacon for the Houston’s fans and citizens.

Now, He’s in the Texans Ring of Honor for good.

Here are some of my favorites:

Ring of Honor: Inside J.J. Watt’s Path Into Houston’s Humanity (SI Texans Daily)

Houston Rockets’ Cam Whitmore Eyeing Rookie Award (SI Inside the Rockets)

"I know I'm different than everybody else, [so] it's time to get to work... I'm ready to be a Rocket."

WHY DO I DO IT?

I find it intriguing that in the world of professional sports, it tends to be forgotten that athletes and sports figures are people too. I intend to explore my interest in sports further throughout my career, using my skills of interviewing and writing to report on the true character of athletes and other sports icons that otherwise would not be seen.

LIKE THIS ONE!

“Winning games is nice, but what do the players get out of the program? That’s what’s going to help them out later on, so that means a lot to me.

“I hope they’ve learned something here about themselves."
